Ventspils Municipality Becomes the First Municipality in Latvia to Join MILA as an Associate Partner18/6/2026 Author: Marketing and Tourism Department The Latvian Artificial Intelligence Association (MILA) has welcomed its first municipal member in Latvia – the Ventspils Municipality, which has been granted the status of an Associate Organisation, or Associate Partner. The partnership will foster the implementation of artificial intelligence solutions in the public sector, promote the exchange of experience, and support the development of joint initiatives involving municipalities, businesses and academia. The decision to grant Ventspils Municipality Associate Partner status was unanimously approved by the MILA Board.
The municipality’s accession marks an important step towards closer cooperation between the artificial intelligence sector and public administration, encouraging innovation and the practical application of data-driven and AI-based solutions in municipal operations. “We are delighted that Ventspils has become the first municipality in Latvia to join MILA as an Associate Partner. This demonstrates the municipality’s strong interest in innovation and its readiness to play an active role in the development of Latvia’s artificial intelligence ecosystem,” said the Board Member of the Latvian Artificial Intelligence Association, Ēvalds Urtāns. Associate Partner status creates new opportunities for cooperation between the municipality and MILA members, including: identifying and developing opportunities for the application of artificial intelligence in municipal services and operational processes; promoting the exchange of knowledge and experience between the public sector, businesses and academia; organising joint seminars, discussions and educational events; developing pilot projects and testing innovative solutions in areas such as urban development, mobility, energy efficiency and customer service; strengthening the digital skills of residents and municipal employees, as well as increasing awareness of the opportunities offered by artificial intelligence; facilitating the implementation of solutions developed by Latvian companies in the public sector. The accession of Ventspils Municipality to MILA reflects the growing interest in the use of artificial intelligence in public governance and highlights the need for closer cooperation between municipalities, businesses and research institutions. MILA believes that this partnership will serve as a positive example for other municipalities in Latvia, promoting the development of modern, data-driven public services that are tailored to the needs of residents.
