ventspils industrial park - place for green investments​

Ventspils has started the next industrialization program, which aims for Ventspils to become a European center where green and digital technologies are created and produced.

Ventspils Industrial Park is a national level project aimed to service and boost the uprising green economy in the region. The sunny and windy region of Ventspils already has been chosen by a number of international solar and wind energy producers, and offshore wind farms are on its way. The presence of renewable energy, the dedicated areas in Ventspils Industrial Park and the port with already existing terminals that are capable of handling e-fuels, including green ammonia, makes Ventspils a natural location for development of Power-to-X and hydrogen economy.

Ventspils industrial park has ambition to become one of the leading green energy production areas in Latvia and Northern Europe. Several companies have already expressed interest to construct solar parks and implement smart manufacturing projects in the new industrial park.

It has been determined that the priority areas of smart specialization for the industrial park are:

• knowledge-intensive bioeconomy,
• biomedicine,
• medical technologies,
• pharmaceuticals,
• photonics and smart materials,
• technologies and engineering systems,
• smart energy and mobility,
• information and communication technologies.​

VENTSPILS INDUSTRIAL PARK HAS THREE MAIN AREAS

green tech area

The Green tech area (marked A on the map) is foreseen as a manufacturing location and testbed for electricity, hydrogen and e-fuels powered vehicles and technologies. The total area of the Green technology manufacturing area is 45 ha.

Ventspils Municipality in the initial stage of the project plans to build the necessary infrastructure of the area (streets, access roads, water supply, wastewater collection and district heating) and two industrial buildings, each with area of 4000 m2, as well as the adjacent territory and parking areas. The area will include a new high voltage substation. 

The Green tech area is located at the E22/A10 road, close to railway, in 15 minute drive from the port of Ventspils and 2 hours' drive from the Riga international airport.   

green energy area

The Green energy area contains a territory dedicated for green energy production (marked D on the map) and a separate territory for developing solar parks (marked C on the map) due to their significant planned size. The total area of the Green energy area is 392 ha, including territory for solar parks. 

Green energy area is aimed for developing solar energy production, smart energy and mobility projects, like hydrogen production and green methanol production.

The Green energy area is located at the E22/A10 road, next to railway, in 15 minute drive from the port of Ventspils and 2 hours' drive from the Riga international airport.   

high tech area

The High tech area (marked B on the map) is the further development site of Ventspils High Technology Park. The total area of the High tech area is 28 ha, and it includes the present area of industrial production with modern industrial buildings and all necessary utilities, including fibre-optic data networks and electricity connections. The site has a wide range of connections, providing the necessary capacity and security for the companies' operations, easy access roads, convenient transport links and a wide range of logistics solutions.

Based on the activities of the companies already operating in the area and interest expressed by potential investors, this area is aimed to specialize in smart materials, technologies and engineering systems, as well as information and communication technologies.

The High tech area is located in close proximity to the E22/A10 road (direct connection to the E22/A10 will be constructed in the initial stage of the industrial park project), in 10 minute drive from the port of Ventspils and 2 hours drive from the Riga international airport. 


In addition, the industrial park includes a service and infrastructure enterprise area (marked E on the map), which is intended mainly for the development and provision of service infrastructure (shops, cafes, restaurants), creating appropriate conditions for independent maintenance in the industrial park area, and recreational area (marked F on the map) in line with modern urban planning.
